After looking at the following articles, How did the United States become involved in Middle Eastern Affairs? Would you agree that the lack of consultation and communication between the US and their ally, Israel, is affecting the American role in the Middle East? Would you agree or disagree that the Americans should be playing a strong role in the Middle East? What do you predict will be the American role in the middle east in 2020? Will it be strengthened or weakened? Answer based on the previous events of American control in the Middle East.
I would say the US got involved out of personal interest and gain. There is a lot of oil out there, and the US was looking to play the "good guy world police role" and go after it. i dissagree that the Americans should be more involved with the Middle East because we have enough problems with our own country. we should probably fix them before we go get our feet wet in other countries.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the USA's love of oil leeds to a lot of hypocrisy in the Middle East. I love that we're allied with the most anti-democratic government in existence over there, and not allied with several of the republics.
ReplyDeleteI suppose I'll have to answer your question with another question. Would things be better in the Middle East if we cut the crap and the government told us out front what their motives were?
I think so. People might not like it, but at least they'll know why we're there. And that way we can have whatever allies we want without going against any sort of moral code. Problemo solved.
Either way we are not in a good situation. If we try to get a stronger grip on the Middle East we make most middle easterners mad at us or we are accused of being greed and corrupt. Then if we lessen our control it could become something like Iran. I think we should have lesser control. We should set up a government, make sure that it is stable and then leave. Though this could take longer then because of the way their government is set up.
ReplyDeletei definitely think that the Middle East needed some sort of help in order to survive. i think it was the right think for the US to step in and try to assist the Middle East, but i also think that we now need to be easing out of the Middle East and trying to help them establish their own stable form of government.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Nate. I also believe that there are many other questions that need to be answered. If we just come right out and answer questions that are asked and forget about everything else then we are good to go
ReplyDeleteI think that America aiding the middle east is a good idea, however the recent lack of communication with israel is definitely affecting our role over there. I believe that America has a lot to offer to poorer countries but also sometimes takes advantage of them and their resources such as oil. I think that their role will be weakened when the middle east realizes the real motives of the US.
ReplyDeleteI think that America is in the Middle East to end Islamic extremism, bring democracy and stability to the region, and to protect our economic interests there.
ReplyDeleteThe Americans became involved in the Middle East because they believed a strong power should be helping to calm chaos in the middle eastern countries. Yet also, the US established themselves in the middle east because of the resources they would benefit from, and the benefits they would gain from allies such as Israel. Because of these reasons, I do not think the US should be playing such a strong role in the middle east.
ReplyDeleteThe US is the world's policeman. Anywhere where we can put our foot (Florida) in the door to "help an 'ally' out" we will. It helps that the Middle East has one of the biggest necessities of the US: oil. If oil hadn't been involved, then I don't think our role would have been/ be as big.
ReplyDeleteI definitely agree with Tori.....we needed to step in and help but they also need to learn how to function more on their own and we should ease out to give them room to do that instead of taking control
